RETROFIT PROGRAM
A retrofit is the practice of modifying the existing system, by replacing inefficient lamps and ballasts with more energy-efficient ones, adding reflectors and removing unnecessary lamps. If the existing fixtures with lighting layout is satisfactory, and if the existing components are in good shape, with good quality lenses and no parts that are cracked, yellowed or broken, it is generally preferable to retrofit. It is less expensive to retrofit the existing lamps and ballasts than to replace them with new ones.
Almost all lighting retrofits projects will pay for themselves within the first 3 years after installation.
Lighting Cost Reduction Example
Let's look at two purely fictitious lighting systems, A and B. Lighting System A is the existing system and Lighting System B is a proposed retrofit system which simply includes more-energy-efficient lamps and ballasts.
